City of České Budějovice
České Budějovice was established by the Czech King Přemysl Otakar II in 1265. The biggest tourist attractions are concentrated in the urban conservation area of the historic center (Piaristické Square, the adjacent Dominican monastery with the Sacrifice of the Virgin Mary church, the Přemysl Otakar II Square with the Samson fountain and the Town Hall, the Black Tower, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, etc.).
The Přemysl Otakar II Square
The Přemysl Otakar II Square is the central public space of the historical center of České Budějovice, currently named after the founder of the city, Czech King Přemysl Otakar II. With an area of 1.7 hectares, it is one of the largest squares in the country, and the largest square-shaped town square in the Czech Republic.
Samson fountain is a baroque fountain standing in the Přemysl Otakar II Square.
The Black Tower
The Black Tower (Černá věž) is one of the dominants of České Budějovice. You can find it right next to the Přemysl Otakar II Square. It was completed in 1577 and server as a watch tower and belfry.
The Cathedral of St. Nicholas
The Cathedral of St. Nicholas is the main church of the Diocese of České Budějovice. The foundation stone of the parish church for the royal city of České Budějovice was laid around 1265, shortly after the founding of the city.
The Museum of South Bohemia
The Museum of South Bohemia has its main exhibition in a building built in historicist Neo-Renaissance style in 1899-1901. It was opened to the public in 1903.
The South Bohemian Theatre
The site of the historic South Bohemian Theatre building is among the oldest historical parts of České Budějovice. Besides theatre plays it also has opera, puppet theater and ballet companies.
The Piaristické Square is located in the historic center of České Budějovice on the site of a former cemetery.
The South Bohemian Motorcycle Museum
With its nearly one hundred motorcycles on display, the museum is one of the largest publicly accessible collections of two-wheelers in the country.
This Dominican monastery with the church of the Sacrifice of the Virgin Mary is the oldest church in České Budějovice.
Plovárna Swimming Pools
The Plovárna swimming pools complex in České Budějovice offers winter and summer swimming pools for children and adults. The winter swimming pool offers a swimming, diving and children’s pool, a covered water roller coaster slide, a whirlpool and a steam room. The summer swimming pool includes a swimming pool and a children’s pool, several water attractions and four lane slides.
Observatory and Planetarium
The České Budějovice observatory was opened in 1937 as the second oldest public observatory in Bohemia. It is located about 300 meters from the Přemysl Otakar II Square in a park at the confluence of the rivers Vltava and Malše.
Stromovka (also called the Long Meadow by locals) is the largest park in České Budějovice, with an area of 68 hectares. Getting there is a five minute walk from the city center, and it serves as a recreational zone.
Střelecký Ostrov Football Stadium
The Střelecký Ostrov football stadium in České Budějovice is home to the SK Dynamo České Budějovice football team. The Stadium was built in 1940.
Horse-drawn Railway (Koněspřežky) Museum
The horse-drawn railway museum depicts the history of the České Budějovice – Linz horse-drawn railway. The whole exhibition is housed in a former gatehouse of the horse-drawn railway. It is one of the smallest museums in the Czech Republic.

Village of Hluboká nad Vltavou
The village is known especially for its monumental neo-Gothic castle, which in its present form is inspired by the romantic Windsor Castle. Besides the castle there are other attractive points of interest: a luxury golf course, Prince’s Court, the Rope center, the Alšova South Bohemian Gallery and the very popular Ohrada Zoo, where there is fun not only for children but also adults, allowing visitors to look into the free ranges of some species.
